Dinner with John

We had John, one of Quent's employees, over for dinner Wednesday night. John is going to watch the house for us for the next 2 1/2 weeks while we're out and about touring South America.

The dinner was complete with BBQ ribs, potato salad and of course corn muffins. John lives over at the Wahweap marina and doesn't get too many home cooked meals. I think we could have served him homemade mush and he'd been ex citied.

We're sorry, you've reached a number...

If you've tried to call us over the past couple of days you may have received a recording ... "We're sorry, you've reached a number that has been disconnected or no longer in service." Well I'm happy to report that we are still in service we're just having phone problems. Qwest told me earlier today that we are up and running, however I can not call Quent at the office unless I dial 1 and the area code. The best part of the story is that I could call out from our phone that was disconnected or no longer in service we just couldn't get incoming calls.

When I called Qwest to report the problem they couldn't find our number and told me we didn't exist. I realize that I live in the middle of no where, but I was calling them from the phone I was having problems. (The Verizon tower has been out this past week as well so our cell phones haven't been working, that's a story for another day.) The nice lady from Qwest told me she was going to research the problem and get back to me. When she called back she asked if I was in Arizona or Utah I explained that we are in Utah but have an Arizona number that they override with a Utah area code, (which by the way is really silly but because we live closer to Arizona we're in their service area so that's the way the phone company handles it.) She also told me that the address I had given her was not the correct address and that the address on file was for a location in town. I explained that Qwest wouldn't run a phone line out to our house and we have it beamed from a satellite in town that hits a satellite at the school which then hits our water tank and then the hatchery building. From the hatchery building to our house there is a buried phone line just like any neighborhood would have, it's just getting to the hatchery building that's the problem.

They did end up trouble shooting the problem and so far I've received one phone call today (thanks for giving it another shot Derek.) and no emails to say that you can't get through. If you do get the message, keep on trying, you'll get through eventually, or send us an email we're bound to get that.

A Sad Day in Utah!

I learned tonight that the Dreyer Company is discontinuing Snelgrove Ice Cream! It's been quite some time since we were actually able to go to the "ice cream parlor" in Sugarhouse and get an ice cream sundae or a banana split but the ice cream was still available in local stores.
No more bear lake raspberry, burnt almond fudge or Canadian vanilla. The double-scoop ice cream cone is an icon on 2100 South in Salt Lake, one that will be missed.

On the Road Again

Quent and I made our third trip to Salt Lake in as many weeks this past weekend. Tonight we're back home after driving about 700 miles in the past week. Quent was asked to teach a fish culture class in Logan on Monday so I tagged along and hung out in Salt Lake for a few days.

Sunday night we went to Quent's parent's house for dinner and we ate buffalo, not the first time I have ever eaten buffalo meat, but not expected. Bill did a great job cooking it and we had a great time visiting with them.

We plan on staying in Big Water for a few weeks before putting anymore miles on the car.

6 Months and Counting....

Today is our 6th month anniversary, and we're still speaking to each other, things are going well for us in Big Water and we're as happy as can be. We ran into our friends Norm and Helen, a couple who lives out in Church Wells, they had recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary and said they hoped we'd be as happy as they are in 65 years.

SURPRISE!!!

After being home for three days, I returned to Salt Lake to help my brother Joe after his unfortunate accident with a snowblower. Although the injury to his finger could have been much worse, he was still in a lot of pain and couldn't drive for a few days. Of course this was the story that my dad heard because the real reason I was in Salt Lake was for the surprise party we hosted on Saturday for my dad's 60th birthday. Quent caught a ride to Salt Lake on Friday and my older brother Dale flew in for the event.

Following the surprise party on Saturday all 15 of use went to dinner to celebrate, only Sydnee, Parker & Ellee were missing.

Stan & Kelly come to visit

On Superbowl Sunday Stan and Kelly (and their kids) came to visit for a few days. Kelly is looking to move back from Baghdad, Arizona and needed a place to stay for a couple of days while they were checking out the job situation. Our Superbowl Party was complete with nacho cheese dip seven layer bean dip, even if ours only had five layers, wings and pineapple cupcakes.
